Overview

Overview

AeroTSN-EP is a TSN (Time-Sensitive Networking) endpoint IP core for aerospace, defence and space, being developed jointly by SoC-e (Spain) and SafeCore Devices. SoC-e announced the start of development on 26 June 2026.

On-board systems are moving from federated, proprietary communication architectures towards integrated, software-defined and modular designs. Carrying mixed traffic over a common Ethernet network underpins that shift, but ordinary best-effort Ethernet cannot meet the requirements of critical applications. What is needed is bounded latency, controlled jitter, high reliability, precise time synchronisation and predictable behaviour under defined conditions.

TSN extends standard Ethernet with deterministic communication, traffic scheduling, redundancy and time synchronisation. For airborne networks this work is being consolidated into the IEEE 802.1DPIEEE 802.1DPprofile, and AeroTSN-EP is designed around that standard.

It acts as a TSN-capable endpoint on FPGA-based platforms, letting deterministic Ethernet interfaces be implemented close to the application logic. The aim is to simplify development of systems where traffic generation, timing behaviour and redundancy mechanisms must be tightly controlled and verified.

Safety and certification

Developed with DO-254 in mind

Aerospace and defence systems demand rigorous assurance processes for hardware components. AeroTSN-EP is being developed against DO-254, the standard used for design assurance of airborne electronic hardware, with the aim of beingcertifiable up to DAL-A, the highest level in DO-254is the development goal.

This targets use cases where the communication endpoint forms part of a safety-critical function and where traceability, verification, robustness and a controlled design process are essential.

Conformance to DO-254 DAL-A is published as a development goal and does not mean certification has been completed or obtained. If you need the current status, we will confirm it with the manufacturer.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

When will AeroTSN-EP be available?

SoC-e announced the start of development on 26 June 2026; no availability date has been published. If you are considering adoption, contact us and we will check the latest position with the manufacturer.

How does it differ from ETSN?

ETSN is a general-purpose endpoint IP supporting several TSN profiles: industrial (IEC/IEEE 60802), automotive (IEEE 802.1DG) and aerospace (IEEE 802.1DP). AeroTSN-EP focuses on IEEE 802.1DP-2025 for airborne Ethernet and is developed under a design assurance process aimed at certifiability up to DO-254 DAL-A. This comparison reflects only what has been published so far; a detailed feature comparison is not available.

Has DO-254 DAL-A certification been obtained?

No. What has been published is the development goal of building it to standards certifiable up to DO-254 DAL-A. That is not the same as certification having been completed.

Which FPGAs can it be implemented on?

It is being developed as an IP core for FPGA-based platforms, but no specific list of supported FPGA families has been published. Tell us the device you are considering and we will check with the manufacturer.

What are the price and licence terms?

Neither the price nor the licence terms have been published. Tell us your application, expected quantities and target device and we will confirm with the manufacturer.
